Membership and Growth:

Requirements for Membership

There is only one requirement for becoming a member of First Church of Christ: Receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
You do this by:

  • Admitting you are a sinner (Romans 3:23)
  • Acknowledging openly that Jesus Christ is God's only Son, that He paid the penalty for your sin by His death on the cross, and that He made it possible for you to have a new way of life through His resurrection. (Romans 10:9, 6:23)
  • Totally trusting Jesus by:
    • Accepting His free forgiveness
    • Repenting of past wrongs
    • Being baptized by immersion in His Name
    • Surrendering your abilities, your desires, your whole life to Him (Acts 2:38, Romans 6)

Expectations of Membership

There's more to being a Christian than having your name on a church roster. As with any organization you join, there are certain expectations of membership. At First Church of Christ, our members have united and invested themselves in the ministry of the church through prayer, relationships, service, and through the investment of their personal time, treatsures and talents. FCoC members are encouraged to give of their:

  • Talents: Using your God-given gifts for His glory
  • Time: Devote at least one hour a week to each of the following:
    • Worship: Attending weekly church services
    • Bible Study: Participating in a small group or class
    • Serving: Finding a place to contribute toward the Kingdom
    • Treasure: Returning a portion of God's material blessings to Him

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 4:6, 7
